       Caravan Restoration Project

Here is what we undertook when we decided to restore our 1980 Abbey Cambridge after the dreaded damp had got into her.

The corner seat has been removed from here and also the rotten plywood has been stripped out along with the studding that formed the corner of the van.

Not the way that anyone wants to view their caravan but we had to make sure that all the wet rot was out .....

Also a section of the floor had become spongey and rot had set into the corner, a circular saw came in handy here to cut a rectangle out that revealed underfloor insulation and polythene membrane.

The new floor piece now fixed with screws and glued into place.

The new studding has been fixed using some screws but mainly gripfill adhesive and then the alluminium coated with pva glue before replacing the polystrene and is now ready for a new ply board.

Here's Wendy making a template from lining paper to transfer to the plywood.

Here's me applying the gripfill.....

.....and the pva glue to the polystyrene

Now that the plywood is in place we prop the board using some batten.

the opposite side was amazingly easily in comparison
the entire back section now removed and ready for new boards

We chose to replace the boards below the window with hardboard as this was what was there originaly, also we pasted the gap filler adhesive down through the corner so as to reinforce the corner some more.

All pieced back together and ready for decoration

These damp stains will have some undercoat on to stop them burning through th new wallpaper when we decorate.
